South Sudan’s President Kiir has called on non-signatories to the peace agreement to join the journey of peace and reconciliation.
The president reiterated the need for combined efforts to achieve durable peace and reconciled society in the country.
Kiir made the call during the closure of the Transitional Justice System conference on Thursday this week in Juba.
‘‘I call on all the Vice Presidents, Ministers, MPs, and all stakeholders to encourage peace and reconciliation wherever you are to have a conducive environment for elections,’’ President Kiir said.
The conference deliberated on ways to enrich the draft bills for the establishment of the Commission for Truth, Reconciliation, and Healing, as well as the Compensation and Repatriation Authority and the Hybrid Court, as spelled out in Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 of the Revitalised Peace Agreement.
He stressed that the country has enough for everyone. He said, all the pending tasks in the peace agreement require collective efforts.
The head of state recommended the actors at the conference use the lessons learned to mobilize for peace and reconciliation and provision of basic services to the citizens.
Meanwhile, the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, applauded Kiir’s efforts as the right step toward the realization of political transformation in South Sudan.
He commended President Kiir for his outstanding political will to conduct the conference.
The conference concluded on Thursday and was attended by State Governors, Chief Administrators, and County Commissioners.
Regional and international experts believe that the transitional Justice Model to be used in South Sudan should be home-grown and in accordance with the people’s sense of justice.
