The Transitional National Legislative Assembly (T-NLA) has resumed its second session for the year 2022/2023 after nearly months of recess period.

President Salva Kiir inaugurated the session on Monday under the theme: “Implementation of the Peace Agreement through the Road map.”

The Speaker of TNLA, Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba applauded President Kiir and the leaders of all Parties for implementing and keeping the peace process on track.

She calls on the international community and the peace guarantors to continue supporting the peace implementation to the very end.

Kumba urges the Members of the Parliament to remain mindful of the provisions provided in the agreement during the forthcoming sessions.

She says MPs must intensify the outreach programs, and continue educating and sensitizing the citizens about the dividends of peace in the country.

The speaker mentioned that the National Legislative Assembly and Council of States had worked tirelessly to ensure all bills tabled by the Ministry of Justice were passed into law.

Kumba assures the public that there is no pending bill before the parliament that was not addressed in the previous session before the August House went on for recess.

She says the National Legislature is on standby and eagerly waiting for the remaining amended bills that are still on the table of the Ministry of Justice.

The Speaker raised concern that the parliament building cannot hold 650 MPs but she revealed process is underway to expand the offices at the Council of States to provide a conducive working environment.

“The legislature is facing inadequate infrastructure due to the increasing number of members,” she stressed.

The Members of the Parliament went for the recess of the first session in December last year and resumed on March 27, 2023.
