The United Nations Mission in South Sudan has reiterated the need for cooperation between the government and international partners.

UNMISS Civil Affairs said the UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders should work jointly to build strong networks and constructive partnerships.

This came during two days of the Capacity building opened by the Governor of Eastern Equatoria Hon. Luis Lobong on Wednesday this week. It brought together civil societies, people with disability, women, and youth representatives.

Dr. Ajang Joseph, one of the facilitators read out the resolutions. He says the forum calls for the creation of a platform and encourages the use of media such as radio, and print media to effectively coordinate and create awareness among communities.

They resolved to encourage the development and implementation of community-based education programs that promote civic education, human rights, and conflict resolution skills.

Dr. Joseph said the need to foster dialogue and engagement between conflicting communities and promote peaceful resolutions using non-violent approaches through mediation and negotiation.

The activists reiterated concern on issues of inter-communal conflicts, cattle raiding, attacks, looting of innocent civilians along highways, and forced marriages should be tackled by the government.

Some civil societies called for intensive dissemination and awareness of the R-ARCSS, the Roadmap, and the electoral Act in all the eight counties of Eastern Equatoria State.

This week, the Minister of Peace Building promised to carry out peace dissemination in the counties to ensure public awareness of ongoing peace implementation.

They called for the promotion of girl child education among other people in communities at the grassroots level that needs urgent intervention by the stakeholders through awareness to stabilize and build lasting peace in Eastern Equatoria state.

Nearly one hundred people attended the forum organized by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan-UNMISS civil affairs division.
