The Speaker of the National Legislative Assembly (TNLA), Jemma Nunu Kumba has threatened to take legal action against a member who had accused her of a money scandal.
This came after lawmaker Juol Nhomngek Daniel, representing the SPLM in Opposition accused the Speaker of smuggling 12 million SSP out of the Parliament last week.
Daniel claimed he was even threatened and slapped severely by the security personnel of the Right Honourable Speaker when he tried to prevent them from taking the money.
However, the Spokesperson of the Parliament, John Agany denied the allegations labeled against the speaker.
Hon. Agany says the money mentioned by the MP was allocated administratively to facilitate the South Sudanese who are Members of Parliament in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
The Spokesperson says the money was given by the National Parliament to get air tickets and other logistical support to EALA members of parliament
“The 12 million SSP that was alleged to have been stolen by the speaker, was the money used administratively to support and give air tickets to our Members in EALA,” he clarified.
John Agany condemned the unnecessary allegation labeled by the lawmaker against Right Honourable Speaker, Jemma Nunu Kumba.
The Spokesperson says they will form a committee to look into the matter and asked the lawmaker to present substantial evidence against the claims.
He says the money was not stolen as claimed by the MP but the money was taken to support South Sudanese lawmakers who are taking part in the regional Assembly.
He says legal proceedings will be filed against Juol Nhomngek for defaming the Speaker if he fails to provide substantial evidence to prove his allegations.
John Agany stated that if Juol Nhomngek did not present substantiated evidence within the stipulated period, then he should be ready to stand in court.
The Spokesperson of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, John Agany responded to the allegation on Friday.
