South Sudan's media team up for coverage in Juba

The Media regulatory bodies are urging journalists to be more ethical in their reporting during the coverage of Pope Francis’s visit to South Sudan this week.

Managing Director of Media Authority, Elijah Alier says, 69 media agencies from 32 countries applied for accreditation.

He added that 291 journalists are accredited by the media authority to cover the event of the peace pilgrimage.

“Media authority urges journalists to be ethical and committed to the principle of journalists during the apostolic, historic, ecumenical peace pilgrimage to South Sudan.”

Father. John Gemboyo, Social communication at Sudan and south Sudan Bishop’s conference appeal to the government to allow journalists free access.

He says it’s a historic spiritual event and people should get messages from religious leaders through the media. Gemboyo asks journalists to desist from disseminating information that provokes the situation.

 “We also like to appeal that our media personnel and houses that are here can access the event and also do their work professionally. Let everybody do his or her part with tranquillity and also according to the profession that we have to embrace.” Fr. John appeals.

The church leader emphasizes that media practitioners reflect the good image of the country through their coverage.

Managing Director of Telecom Authority Napoleon Adok Gai says free Wi-Fi is installed to ease connectivity for journalists at identified media centers

He says Internet connectivity and printer will be made available at the airport, Dr. John Garang Mausoleum, and at St. Theresa cathedral among others.

Minister of information Micheal Makuei calls on the journalists to cooperate with the security organs, be punctual and comply with instructions.

Pope Francis arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo this afternoon and proceeded to South Sudan on Friday.
