The High Court of Juba on Wednesday freed two suspects of the case of shooting of Rumbek Bishop-elect Monsignor Christian Carlassare under section 226 criminal procedures for lack of evidence.
Justice Alexander Sebur Subek says Court released 20-year-old Mangok Chol and 30-year-old Gabriel Deng Dut.
“Today the charges being thrilled against the six accused and court has released them under 226 criminal procedures for lack of evidence against them”, he clarified.
“The other four accused were charged with sections 48,55,59,72,334 and 208 Penal Code 2008 and they will be tried according to this section respectively”, Justice Subek discloses.
The presiding judge elaborated that accused number five and number six confessed being guilty and Fr. John Mathiang and Samuel Makiir denied being guilty.
“Up to now, it is not an end of course, at the end of the day when the court is delivering the verdict, it will be according to what evidence is produced, maybe some will go free and others will be convicted, he explained.
Gabriel Deng Dut while speaking to media just after their release said he was accused for no reason.
He promised to go back to the diocese and to serve together with the bishop-elect, Monsignor Christian Carlassare who will be consecrated on March 25, 2022 in Rumbek Diocese.
Next hearing is next Monday, 14th 2022 at the South Sudan High Court in Juba.
