The Civil Society Network in greater Kapoeta appealed for the inclusion in the executive body of the Civil Society Network in Eastern Equatoria State.

Chairperson of Civil Society Network in Kapoeta Juma Tikol Marino through Radio Emmanuel says they met to respond to the elections conducted late November in 2021.

He says they did not attend the elections of the executive body of Eastern Equatoria Civil Society Network that took place in Torit.

Tikol says they requested the executive body in Torit to reserve some positions for greater Kapoeta civil society, but it was not taken into consideration.

“The meeting is all about the reorganization of the Civil Society Network, the people sitting for the meeting are civil society organizations in greater Kapoeta, the meeting was called up in response to the elections that was held in Torit, the Kapoeta team was not able to attend the elections in Torit, so they have requested Torit to reserve positions it seems like the request was not accepted”, he complains.

The activist mentions that the Eastern Equatoria State Civil Society Network was lacking money to transport the people of greater Kapoeta for the elections in Torit.

He adds that in the last few years they missed chances of getting capacity building, information sharing and advocacies in the state.

The chairperson says the reluctance in their consideration by some committee members has triggered them to deliberate possible ways whether to cooperate with the Network or to be independent.

“For the last few years, we were missing chances of getting some opportunities like capacity building, sharing information to grant and the advocacy, unfortunately the Network was not having funds to take people from Kapoeta to attend the elections in Torit, so we came with a resolution that let some positions be left to Kapoeta and we carry our elections here in Kapoeta to be part of the Network in Torit, but the issue was not considered by the committee, that triggered the Civil Society Network in Kapoeta to some possible ways on how the network can cooperate or the network can be independent.

Chairperson Tikol appeals to the executive body of the Civil Society Network in Eastern Equatoria to include civil society in greater Kapoeta in the leadership.

“What we really need is to be part of the network, then in order for us to be part of the network, theirs need for us to be part and partial of the executive body, when none of any organization in greater Kapoeta is part of the executive this is our request to the current executive body that if the positions are given we don’t have any problem, but now we are reject from being part of the executive and the network is for Eastern Equatoria”, he explains.

The speakers made their statement to Radio Emmanuel in a telephone interview from Kapoeta on Wednesday. The station could not reach the newly elected chairperson for Eastern Equatoria Civil Society Network for comment.
