Peace marathon ends with call for sustainable peace and development

The ten kilometer race of the Great South Sudan Run peace marathon concluded in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State with a call for sustainable peace and development in the country.

Western Bahr el Ghazal athletes dominated the top ten while Northern Bahr el Ghazal state took two out of the first three positions on both male and female sides, Voice of Hope Radio reported.

Eastern Equatoria Governor, Louis Lobong Lojore, called on the people of Bahr e Ghazal to embrace peace and unity among themselves.

Western Bahr e Ghazal Governor, Sarah Cleto Hassan, assured of her government’s commitment to use sports as means of uniting communities to coexist in peace.

National Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Albino Bol urged youth to unite and work to restore the lost social cohesion and peaceful coexistence amidst the diverse ethnic groups in the region.

Various states, administrative areas and communities including Ugandans, Ethiopians and Sudanese in South Sudan participated in the Great South Sudan Run Peace marathon on Saturday in Wau.
