A Police Officer in Torit attributes gender inequality in work places to low level of education among women in South Sudan society.

Canal Quintino Pitia says, equality can only be attained when women are accorded respect and equal opportunity to go to school.

“In the family sometimes education is the matter ignorance is the one which is making us to lower our women down in the office sometimes it is jealousy some are saying this is not my relative is not my family and so on why should upgrade them according to me the people have to make themselves equal to forget tribalism”

Colonel Pitia calls on the population to practice equality by sending both girls and boys to school without discrimination.

Prison Warden, First Lieutenant, Emmanuel Kasmiro Wani, says negative cultural practices have contributed much to gender inequality in the State.

He admits that gender inequality is experienced and practiced both at home and offices.

“In this content, you find that some cultures did not give opportunity to a woman to exercise their roles as required by the law or our culture. This is one of the causes of inequality in our places of work and home to our men let us give respect to our women our wives at home let us help them because if you help them then there is no kind of love between a man and a woman”.

Meanwhile, another official Christina Luka, says, women have fallen victims of unfairness at all levels in South Sudan society, especially at work place.

“In promotion the same thing you should promote men and women at the same time not only you should promote men only and you leave women behind it will not work it is because we need women to be strong in their work if she cannot let us find out how to strengthen her if still we should train her consecutively so that she can do what she don’t know so that we stay balance in the society”.

Christina calls for recognition of women at all levels of both private and public institutions.

The officials were speaking to Radio Emmanuel in an exclusive interview at the ongoing three days’ training of security sectors, on gender sensitivity in Eastern Equatoria state.
