United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS and Community Empowerment for Progress Organization or CEPO, handed over Yei freedom square to the local authorities in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State.

UNMISS through Quick Impact Project with implementing partner, CEPO, fulfilled the fifty thousand US dollars’ project after a request from the minister of Information and Local Government.

UNMISS head of Field Office in Juba, Geetha Pious, said freedom square is a very important place in the history of South Sudan.

“The freedom square will bring more aspirant football players for South Sudan, because I know Yei players are very interested in football and they play very well. So I hope they will bring world football players from this field’’ says Pious.

CEPO General Program Manager, Pitia Moses reiterates freedom square provides space for political rallies and big events.

He calls for sustainability of the space. “Freedom square provides space for political rallies, conferences, football tournaments internally and internationally and even community meetings, hero and heroine funerals, weddings and social events that promotes peaceful coexistence’’ said CEPO Program Manager, Pitia Moses.

The speakers made the statement during the handover ceremony of upgraded Yei freedom square to the local government of Yei River County.
