Moderately malnourish children, expectant and breastfeeding mothers are receiving supplementary food from the nutrition department at Torit Hospital, in Eastern Equatoria State.

Speaking to Radio Emmanuel in an exclusive interview, Director General for nutrition in Torit state hospital, Anthazia Sabasio, said the exercise runs across the eight counties of the state.

“Today, we have the program of TSSP, TSSP we have moderately malnourish children without medical complication, they are the one coming to receive their supply and then also we have pregnant and lactating mothers, they’re also coming to receive their ratio because they’re also moderately malnourish. When the child came in the program, by weekly we are giving one sachet per day, two weeks we are giving for them fourteen sachets for ready used supplementary feed, said Anthazia”

She said the exercise is to reduce malnutrition among the targeted group.

“We want to reduce malnutrition   we are considering the thousands, a thousand is important that is why we are considering also the pregnant and lactating mothers. We want the child in the womb of the mother should be healthy so that when they delivering they can deliver the healthy children that is why moderate POW and then the lactating mothers we are also including in the program they will come and pick their ratio”.

Anthazia cautioned mothers against selling the supplimentary food.

“My message to them because other mothers when they receive supplementary food, they don’t give to their children, my message to them is, the supply they receive is not for sell. It is for their children, let them give to their children and let the children benefit from the supply that we are giving, because we are giving to the children to be healthy that is like a medicine but the mother may think that this is not a medicine because it is like a peas that is why they want to sale it in the market. My message to them is that this is a medicine, medicine we cannot sell out. You need to give the child according to the prescriptions from the doctor. So that we have healthy children in our country”, said .

The speaker made the remarks in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.
