United Nations Development Program or UNDP in partnership with National Prison Services vowed to support Wau Central Prison in preventing corona virus pandemic.
UNDP Access to Justice and Rule of Law officer in Wau, Njifack Justin expressed willingness to assist the prison in combating the virus, Voice of Hope Radio reported.
Director of Wau Central Prison, Peter Madut Barjowak appreciated the UN agency for its support at this critical moment.
He urged other humanitarian organizations to look at the situation of captives and help in fighting this deadly disease.
Director of Prisons in Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Marko Ranga explained that regular hand washing, maintenance of self hygiene and avoiding of handshakes among others are some preventive measures of COVID 19.
He said visits to inmates are suspended until further notice, but food from the relatives is allowed to the inmates.
The officials talked to the media on Friday at Wau Central Prison in Wau.
