Shops in Torit town have been shut down due to fear of spread of corona virus pandemic, said Central Division Police Inspector Justin Cleophas Takuru.
He told Radio Emmanuel that the closure targets shops with none food items and that shops with food commodities, drugs, clinics, restaurants and hotels will continue operating as usual.
‘What is happening this morning at the market is true, because it is an order made by His Excellency the President of the Republic of South Sudan that you should have to take care of this global pandemic. This order came some weeks back and we informed the people but it did not make its self but lastly we made the order from our security meeting that was chaired by chairperson of Security Council of the state. He gave the order that all the shops should remain closed until further notice with an exception of shops with food, restaurants and hotels should be open but shops with clothes and garages should remain close’, Cleophas said.
The Police Inspector appealed to the entire population of Torit to wash hands with soap and water at all times, avoid handshaking, and keep distance while buying food items.
‘People should not congest themselves while buying, they must have some meters away, one should buy and go and another one next and there are places for washing hands, you come and wash your hands, then you go. These are also some of the recommendations that we came up with. You should not be panicking God is great because tomorrow this outbreak will disappear. I am appealing you that you should have to be patient and have belief in your own country’, he pleaded.
Coronavirus also known as COVID-19 started in China and spread to other countries, including Africa.
More than one million people have been infected, over fifty thousand died and more than two hundred thousand recovered, according to world meters.
