The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission or JMEC calls on religious leaders in South Sudan to be at the forefront in promoting peace and reconciliation in the country.
JMEC’s call came on Tuesday during an Inter-states Governor Strategic Peace Intervention Conference in Yambio.
JMEC Deputy Chairperson, Ambassador Augostino Njoroge, says there is a lot of faith placed in the Church to lead in resolving inter-ethnic and other conflicts.
He says the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance is now higher than when the Peace Agreement was signed in August 2015.
Ambassador Njoroge says since the signing of the agreement, its implementation has not met the expectations of citizens, regional and international partners.
Njoroge calls on leaders to correct the mistakes of the past and ensure that the path to peace is firmly grounded on values of justice and reconciliation.
