Gogrial State on Friday launched the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence on women and girls.
The event is under the theme: ‘Make girls’ education a priority’, Radio Voice of Hope reports.
Governor of Gogrial State, Victor Atem Atem, says the national government recognized the right of women even during war time.
He says South Sudan is the only nation in the world which came out of war and gave a special recognition to women.
Director-General in the State Ministry for Rural Development, Atong Manyual, says communal conflicts do not support the situation of women rights in Gogrial.
He appeals to communities and government to support women and girl child education in the state.
Marko Madut Garang, Executive Director for TOCH organization says the early marriage rate in the country is alarming.
He says the research made by UNICEF and other international organizations on child early marriage under the age of eighteen is 62 percent which needs all to campaign to reduce it.
The campaign for gender-based violence has started and it will conclude on December 10 marking World Human Rights Day.
