ICRC staff killed while delivering aid to victims of armed conflict

A driver of the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC has been killed on Friday while helping to deliver aid to victims of the armed conflict in former Western Equatoria State.
 
In a statement seen by CRN on Saturday, the ICRC said Lukudu Kennedy Laki, was killed when an ICRC convoy of nine trucks and a four-wheel-drive vehicle was shot at by unknown attackers while returning from Amadi state.

The statement expressed shocked and dismayed by the killing of its staff in South Sudan.
 
The ICRC condemns the incident, calling on all parties to the conflict to abide by the International Humanitarian Law. It also says the arm groups must ensure that humanitarian workers can perform their duties in a safe environment.
 
Fran√ßois Stamm, ICRC’s head of delegation in Juba says the vehicles were clearly marked with the Red Cross emblem and all the parties to the conflict in the area had been notified about their presence.
 
The ICRC is assessing the implications of this killing on its operations in the area.
 
Kennedy joined the ICRC in 2014 as a truck driver in the Juba Delegation.
 
He was married and leaves behind seven children.
