International Organization for Migration IOM is preparing for critical response to stem cholera outbreak as the rainy season progresses in South Sudan.

IOM in a statement CRN saw on Tuesday say it is working hard to decrease the impact of disease and its threats of spreading further.

The effect of the continued cholera outbreak on vulnerable populations is acute, says Beldina Gikundi, IOM South Sudan Migration Health Emergency Officer.

She says IOM expects to see the trend persist throughout the rainy season, which leaves as much as 60 percent of the country inaccessible by road.

Dr Gikundi says sustained and flexible responses are essential to stop the transmission of the disease in this extremely challenging context.

IOM says it water, sanitation and hygiene team has been on the ground in Kapoeta, Eastern Equatoria, since May to help end the outbreak that began in April.

The team has repaired 84 boreholes, distributed cholera response kits including jerry cans, water treatment supplies and soap to 2,600 households, he discloses.

It also conducted water monitoring and treatment at boreholes and distributed soap and household water treatment supplies during hygiene promotion sessions.
