Director of Medication and Prevention in Nuba Mountains cautions communities to be careful to avoid waterborne diseases following floods in the region last week.

Osman Azarrak told Radio Voice of Peace that human beings need water, which can also be destructive to life.

He mentions that when the area is flooded, it brings rubbish, dead animals or fills pit latrines and contaminates water sources.

The official says many diseases like cholera, Bilharzia, liver cirrhosis and others are caused by unsafe drinking water.

Arzarrak advises community to get drinking water from the boreholes or consume boiled water.

The Director encourages people not to build near river banks and avoid crossing flowing rivers.

He advises parents to tell their children to remain at home when it is raining.
