Passengers say drivers expose them to road attacks

Passengers travelling by road from Torit to Juba are blaming commercial drivers for not servicing their cars when travelling.
 
They say commercial buses usually fail to start due to mechanical problems when on road, exposing them to armed robbers.
 
A victim who prefers to remain anonymous for fear of security says she had to run for her life having been threatened by armed men when the battery of the car in which she boarded fail to start.
 
Karama Lucy, who travelled on two separate journeys along Torit Juba road, says their car stopped working when they were already in scaring places.
 
She says she felt nervous and emotionally disturbed having recalled previous attacks on the same road.
 
Lucy urges drivers to always service their cars to avoid risking passengers’ lives
 
She encourages passengers to move with extra money to be on a safer side incase a car fails they can board another one coming.
 
Oyet Samuel, Director of Roads and Transport in Imotong State, says poor roads contribute to high consumption of fuel in journeys.
 
Whereas Private Okeny Julius, a traffic officer in Torit, says traffic department is not mandated to inspect general car services when travelling.
 
Okeny accuses some drivers for not abiding by traffic rules.
 
Drivers refused to talk to media for security reasons.
