A civil rights activist and a member of the board of trustees of ‘Screen of Rights’, a national human rights organization is now free without charges.
Peter Garang Geng was released after nine days, police detention cells in Buluk and Juba along with Joseph Garang Piol, James Idroy, Daniel Majak Majok, and Amet Makil.
Lawyer Peter Garang Geng, was arrested while participating in a civil rights’ peaceful demonstration as a concern citizen of South Sudan on May 8 2017, says Screen of Rights in a statement.
It says the release of the five peaceful demonstrators on 17th last month, was a result of exerted efforts by lawyers and the Screen of Rights to assure their freedoms.
Civil Rights Activist, Garang Geng thanks those who advocated for their release.
It was such difficult moment that without their support, it would not have been easy.
He says they went on streets in exercise of their rights granted to any citizens of any nation on earth, but ended up being arrested.
The released activist says they reject government attempt to politicize their peaceful demonstration.
Garang describes it as a mere tactic by those who think they own South Sudan in order to deny their rights and further scare those who would follow them.
Screen of Rights is concerned about the gross violations against individual rights.
It calls on the government to adhere to the spirit and later of Transitional Constitution 2011 amendment 2015 as signed by President; Salva Kiir Mayardit.
Screen of Rights is a national non-profit and non-governmental organization registered in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Sudan.
