The Internet Society and the African Union or AU Commission launched Internet Infrastructure Security Guidelines for the continent.
The initiative occurred during the African Internet Summit in Nairobi, Kenya between May 30 and June 2.
The guidelines will help Africa create a more secure internet infrastructure and change the way African Union States approach internet security preparedness.
African and global experts developed the guidelines as the first of their kind in Africa and the first step to build a more secure internet in the continent.
They will help AU member states strengthen the security of their local infrastructures at all levels.
Mokhtar Yeday, AU Head of Information Society, encourages governments, companies, network operators, universities and organizations to implement the guidelines.
He describes the document as a ‘timely milestone achievement’ given the new security challenges in cyberspace.
AU Commission will continue its partnership with the Internet Society on a second set of guidelines that will address personal data protection in Africa, the official pledges.
