A midwife working in Yei State Hospital is urging women to come early for the anti-natal care to ease getting proper history of pregnancy.

Sarah Night says the biggest problem they face is mothers normally coming late for anti-natal care making it difficult for delivery.

Due to the crisis in the state, mothers are travelling long distances looking for anti-natal facilities and end up delivering on roads, subjecting the babies to high risk of infections because of poor care on the way, she explains.

The midwife calls for more women to join their profession to help mothers who are unable to reach facilities far from them.

The current situation is stopping mothers from coming to health centre for anti-natal care, says Mama Nona Tokosang, a midwife at St Bakhita Health Centre.

She advises pregnant mothers to have regular visit to the anti-natal care centres for proper check up to know how the child is positioned in the womb.
