Newly created Nyepo County Commissioner in Kajo-Keji says armed pastoralists from Jonglei raided 500 cattle from his area last Sunday.
Julius Lokonga says the incident occurred in Lori Payam at night hours, Radio Easter reports.
He says local cattle owners tried to follow their animals only to be scared away by gunshots.
Commissioner Lokonga is urging Jonglei and Jubek States’ authorities to cooperate on the recovery of the stolen cattle.
He says Jonglei pastoralists are abusing local permission for them to graze in northern part of Nyepo area.
Commissioner Lokonga adds that the armed pastoralists had also taken more 40 cattle from the area last Wednesday.
Cattle raiding have been a rampant cause of inter-communal hostility throughout the country.
Radio Easter could not reach Jonglei State authorities for comments over the raiding.
