Abyei citizens regret the delay of South Sudan to recognize its 2013 unilateral referendum to join the country.

current conflict in South Sudan is the cause of delay in the determination of the region’s final status, says Deng Arop Kuol, the Area Member of Parliament.

The national government can still address insecurity in Abyei Area as the constitution requires, believes MP Arop.

Another area MP, Asha Abbas Akuei, raises security concerns in Abyei.

She says there were recent cases of attacks from Arab militia leaving several civilians dead and others wounded.

MP Abbas believes that the attacks were to displace citizens and frustrate the ongoing voluntary repatriation of locals to the area.

With peace agreement at hand, Abyei community hopes to see their destiny in the nearest future.
