Households in Wau are receiving over 300 thousand treated mosquito nets to help prevent children and pregnant mothers from malaria.

All family members should sleep under mosquito nets every night, says Abdelgadir Madwok, the State Malaria Control Manager.

Mosquitoes in South Sudan bite throughout the year, he says.

The manager says malaria infection increases in the months of August, September, October and even January when people decide to sleep out of mosquito nets, Radio Voice of Hope reports.

Madwok says the distribution of mosquito nets will cover most parts of the state except Raja County.

He advises people to use mosquito nets properly.

The nets can last for three years, Madwok says.

40 percent of patients seeking treatment in Western Bahr El Ghazal health centres test malaria positive, the official says.

The most infected with malaria are children and pregnant mothers, he adds.
