South Sudan warring parties repeatedly violate ceasefire, endangering progress towards a political transition, pushing the peace process to a critical juncture, says Undersecretary-General for UN Peacekeeping Operations.
Herv√© Ladsous says the UN Security Council and international partners of the ‘IGAD Plus’ should invest politically in supporting the take-off of the transition in South Sudan, reports UN News Centre.
The progress made could be lost, Ladsous warns.
He tells the Security Council to approve 1,100 additional UN peacekeepers to monitor the implementation of peace agreement in the country.
Work collectively on increasing the buy-in of South Sudanese warring parties to the implementation of their agreement to put an end to the conflict, the UN Undersecretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations urges.
