Government Spokesperson confirms that South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit will not attend United Nations or UN sideline meeting of the General Assembly on September 29 contrary to expectations of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Michael Makuei Lueth argues during a press briefing on Friday that President Kiir’s invitation to the US New York based UN General Assembly came in a short notice after arrangement for the delegation led by Vice President James Wani Igga has been made.

Spokesperson Makuei says President Kiir cannot be given short notice invitation like a school boy, citing difficulty in visa process to The United States of America.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon reportedly invited President Salva Kiir and SPLM/A-In Opposition leader Dr Riek Machar to stir up international support for the implementation of South Sudan Peace Agreement.

Media reports indicate that the UN Secretariat will be disappointed if President Kiir as the signatory to the peace deal does not attend the meeting in person.
