Several members of the civil population including business entrepreneurs and society activists have criticized The Citizen Newspaper columnist Sunday D Tor for suggesting that public servants should be paid in US Dollars to address economic crisis.

Some anonymous sources say the opinion is ‘unthinkable’ because it implies United States of America should take charge of South Sudan economy, questioning the country’s sovereignty.

Business entrepreneur Bali Peter pronounces total rejection for Tor’s opinion of ‘Pay the public servants in US Dollars’, ruling that government institutions and employees should continue to receive South Sudanese Pounds as their own product or else government stops producing the currency.

The entrepreneur recommends that government increases the salaries of civil servants to cope with the economic crisis.

He, however, adds that addressing civil servants’ pay alone does not cater for many suffering unemployed citizens in the country.

The Citizen Newspaper columnist writes on Tuesday July 14, Issue 106 that the only way out for the government to rescue public servants including SPLA and other organized forces from economic hardship is to pay them in US Dollars.

Government sources, CRN contacted for comments declined, saying they have not read Sunday D Tor’s opinion on payment of government employees in US Dollars to understand his reasoning before commenting.
