Lakes State Legislative Assembly Speaker says the ongoing wrangling among MPs is the work of external forces trying to destabilize the House, vowing not to resign.

Speaker Baipath Majuec responding to the accusation of weakness to control the parliament on Thursday, says he was innocent of charges such as failure to send the house for recess and inability to call a quorum since March, Radio Good News reported.

Speaker Baipath says he should not be blamed for failing to call MPs to deliberate in parliament because it was the duty of the Chief Whip and that MPs were given private leaves by law and he could not go against it.

A group of State MPs on Wednesday called on the Speaker of Parliament to resign over what they termed ‘weak leadership’.
