Seventeen civil society organizations submitted recommendations to the IGAD-led peace process, demanding security sector reform and defense transformation.
The recommendation released on Thursday was facilitated by the South Sudan Action Network on Small Arms, Radio Bakhita reported.
They said the size of the current military is huge amidst growing number as a result of ongoing recruitments and tribal accommodation.
The organizations said South Sudan needs united and accountable security sector that is able to deliver services to people in accordance with the rule of law.
They called on the warring parties to be explicit about security sector reform requirements in the peace agreement.
The group urged SPLA and SPLA-In Opposition to screen their forces and contribute their highly professional personnel to form a new united army.
The organizations said their recommendation is to prevent or address security threats that affect society’s well-being.
