Five public universities’ coalition on Friday declared striking for a period of one month to recover 40 million South Sudanese Pounds’ arrears backdated to 2012/2013 austerity measures.
Representative of the Public Universities Philip Finish Apollo told journalists that the strike would continue even beyond March 19 should the Finance ministry fail to settle the long awaited arrears including staff housing and transport allowances.
The coalition representative said explanations and promises Education and Finance ministries made to the academic staff were unsatisfactory, prompting continuous strike.
The strike interrupted students’ exams supposed to take place in February and March 2015.
The five public universities on strike include Juba, Dr John Garang, Upper Nile, Bahr El Ghazal and Rumbek.
