A large number of Christians mostly youths celebrated Ash Wednesday at Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Nuba Mountains.
Fr Francis Angela in his homily told the congregation that Ash Wednesday marks important moment in Christian life where people repent and ask God for forgiveness, Radio Voice of Peace reported.
He said the Lent season is a moment Jesus calls Christians to be happy and enjoy life and not to feel worried.
The priest told the faithful to observe charity, prayer and fasting as the most sacred virtues in the Lent period.
Father Angela urged Christians to be generous, help the poor and spread the message of joy during Lent.
The period of Lent is the most important moment to the Catholics when Christians fast and follow the way of the cross every Friday.
