The Catholic Diocese of Rumbek on Tuesday at the Holy Family Cathedral launched 40 days of prayer, fasting, charity for justice, peace and reconciliation in Lakes State and the entire South Sudan beginning from February 18 to 29 March.
Rumbek Diocesan Administrator Fr John Mathiang Machol explained that the current conflicts in Lakes State are caused by people, who did not receive the message of God, Radio Good News reported.
He expressed optimism that the clashes would stop when the message of Christ reach everyone in the State.
Peace and Justice Coordinator Fr Henry Gidudu told the congregation to repent, forgive one another and shun revenge.
The forty days of Lenten campaign is under the theme: ‘Unless you repent, you will all perish as they did’.
