At least 13 police personnel including five commissioned officers in Torit County were sentenced to serve prison terms and dismissal.
Eastern Equatoria Police Commissioner Major Genera Edward Demetry Lukak said the 13 non-commissioned officers would serve six months in prison and pay 3,000 South Sudanese Pounds in addition to dismissal, Radio Emmanuel reported.
He explained that the officers were arrested for aiding 19 suspects linked to Loronyo massacre to escape from detention in Torit town.
Major General Lukak added that non-commissioned officers have up to five days while the commissioned officers have 15 days to appeal the verdict.
