Jur River County Commissioner has criticized police involvement in border conflicts, saying chiefs are the most suitable solvers of border disputes caused by pastoralists’ movement and settlement.

Simon Athuai suggested chiefs from Western Bahr El-Ghazal and Warrap States should come together to negotiate and determine their borders based on ancestral chieftaincy.

He cited cases of misinformation on matters related to land conflicts worsening tensions between disobedient police authority and defiant citizens.

Commissioner Athuai said calm had returned to the area after the death of a health official in a cross fire shooting.

The Commissioner added that Warrap and Western Bahr El-Ghazal State residents were living together peacefully and that border dispute should not be a dividing factor.
