The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS has condemned the killing of eleven civilians including five journalists on Sunday in a roadside ambush while travelling to Raja in Western Bahr El Ghazal State.

In a statement CRN received on Wednesday UNMISS reported that unidentified gunmen opened fire on a two-car convoy transporting the new Raja County Commissioner James Benjamin and a team of local journalists.

The statement added that the vehicles were attacked between Sepo and Magaya and that it was the second incident in less than two weeks.

UNMISS extends its condolences to the families of the deceased for the loss of their loved ones.

The mission calls upon local, state and national authorities to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
