United Nations or UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights described African Union or AU delay to release findings of its inquiry into crimes committed in South Sudan as a ‘very disturbing development’.
Ivan Simonovic, who was speaking to reporters in New York earlier this week said if the report is not released it would be very difficult to held perpetrators accountable.
His remarks came ahead of an AU head of states summit due to take place at the end of January in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Mr Simonovic said the world body is very concerned that the findings of the five-member team may not be publicly released.
The AU Commission of Inquiry headed by former Nigerian leader Olusegun Obasanjo was tasked to investigate alleged human rights violations and crimes committed during the violence in South Sudan.
Last week, UN rights division released a report implicating the warring parties for killing hundreds of people in Unity and Jonglei States in April 2014.
