Sudan peace talks with SPLM-North close to deal amidst adjournment

African Union High level Implementation Panel or AUHIP chairperson on Monday said Sudan government and SPLM-North peace talks were close to an agreement to end conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile States.
 
Thabo Mbeki disclosed that the warring parties agreed to adjourn the talks to have time to study proposals made by the mediation, Radio Bakhita reported.
 
He added that the talks would be coordinated with negotiations on Darfur region, and that there is ‘only one process, but two tracks’.
 
SPLM-North Chief Negotiator Yasser Arman said he saw opportunity for peace in Sudan with equal citizenship after conclusion of the peace talks.
 
Sudan Government Chief Negotiator Ibrahim Ghandour expressed commitment to achieving peace.
