Discussions are ongoing with community leaders to diffuse prevailing tension in Malakal civilians’ protection site posing a challenge to humanitarian operation.
United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs or UNOCHA reported that youths in civilians’ protection site set up illegal checkpoints at the entrance.
The report explained that the youths verify identity of national staff and confiscate food and other assistance meant for Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs following a trigger of inter-communal differences.
It highlighted that shelter constraints in Malakal protection site remain unabated due to rising ethnic tensions, making relocation plans very difficult to implement.
