The headman of Nakpangau and Duduma residential areas in Yambio County on Friday ordered the local population to clean their compounds and surroundings.

Bernardo Bahagbere said every household must have a toilet, bathroom, rubbish pit and plate stand, and all roads leading to houses must be cleaned, Anisa Radio reported.

He called on residents to clear the surroundings and remove stagnant water around houses to avoid snakes and mosquitoes bites.

Mr Bahagbere said the order aimed to promote hygiene and sanitation to prevent unnecessary illness in the community.

He said after seven days, they would inspect every house and that violators would pay undisclosed fine for the first time or face the court of law if they persisted.

Mr Bagbere urged his people to cooperate with their community leaders in order to see changes in the society.
