South Sudan on Monday will mark the first International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists under a local theme: ‘Together, for safety and protection of journalists ‘at Nyakuron Cultural Centre in Juba.
United Nations General Assembly Resolution on December 18, 2013, proclaimed that November 2 of every year is designated to International Day to end impunity for crimes against journalists.
It requested the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in consultation with relevant entities to facilitate the implementation of the International Day in collaboration with governments and relevant stakeholders.
Union of Journalists of South Sudan or UJOSS Secretary General Edward Lodu Terso said the extension to November 3 was necessitated by the fact that the official date falls on Sunday.
He said the ceremony that brings together UN agencies officials, national and state government top officials, End Impunity organization, civil society organizations and the public would witness panel discussions and other activities.
