Sacred Heart Parish in Tonj South of the Diocese of Rumbek on Wednesday while celebrating the feast of Blessed Michael Rua, prayed for peace in the country.

Fr John Peter, who presided over the Eucharistic celebration, narrated that Blessed Rua was the first follower and successor of the founding father of the Salesian Congregation, Don Bosco Radio reported.

He said the Salesian communities in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and South Sudan came together around 4:00 PM for the ceremony at their various countries.

Fr Peter  urged all Christians especially young people to emulate Blessed Michael Rua in helping Parishes and Chapels to pray for peace and unity in South Sudan.

Tonj Salesians Sister Elizabeth Cyril said when Blessed Rua was nine years old, he had a dream of becoming a priest.

She told Christians that God is calling South Sudanese to be his children, good citizens, leaders and parents through commitment to peace.
