“Supporting smaller businesses is a major contributor to economic growth, job creation and poverty reduction, especially in a country recovering from conflict.’

These were words of South Sudan’s Chamber of Commerce Secretary General Simon Deng during the launch of Small Business Support Programme in South Sudan in Juba on Tuesday.

He expressed pleasure that the Programme would support private sector development in the country.

International Finance Corporation Conflict Affected States in Africa Initiative Coordinator Zahia Msuya Lolila said the number of follow-up activities confirm IFC’s commitment to help South Sudan recover from conflict and build its private sector.

She said ‘IFC believes a strong private sector will help create jobs and deliver the goods and services that South Sudan needs to grow, diversify, and ensure a sustainable future.’

The Coordinator explained that IFC is active in South Sudan with a number of programmes including its Business Edge training to help entrepreneurs gain the management and financial literacy skills.
