Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference or SCBC Secretary-General on Saturday announced that Bishop Emeritus Joseph Gasi Abangite passed away at 1:30AM of Saturday night at his home Diocese of Tombura-Yambio in Western Equatoria State.
Fr Jacob Odwa in a eulogy told CRN that the Catholic Bishops’ Conference comprising Sudan and South Sudan is mourning the untimely demise of Emeritus Bishop Gasi who worked tirelessly for God’s people.
He appreciated God for the life of the fallen Emeritus Bishop and all the services he rendered to the conference and the country at large.
Fr Jacob said Solidarity South Sudan was an achievement of Emeritus Bishop Gasi who went up to Rome and met the entire union of superiors to have it realized.
He added that the late retired bishop would be remembered for doing a lot as a bishop especially for SCBC.
Fr Jacob remembers Emeritus Bishop Gasi as a great national peace promoter, praying that God forgives whatever wrong he committed and rests his soul in eternal peace.
The Secretary-General concluded that arrangements for the funeral service and burial in Tombura-Yambio Diocese would be communicated later.
