The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS condemned the detention of six Inter-governmental Authority on Development or IGAD ceasefire monitors and three aircrew in Buoth by SPM/A in Opposition on Saturday in Bentiu, Unity State.
In a statement on Monday, the Mission said the monitor who died during the detention period was a government representative and part of the verification team on a routine mission.
UNMISS reiterated its full support to IGAD mediators and the Monitoring and Verification Mechanism, as agreed by both parties on January 23.
It called for full cooperation of all parties to find a peaceful and durable solution to the current crisis.
