Western Bahr El Ghazal SPLM Youth League launched public debate to enlighten citizens on the implication of federal system of governance under the theme: ‘Implications of federal and decentralized system of governance on developing countries’.

Addressing the debate on Monday in Wau, Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan said South Sudan should first build its infrastructures through a decentralized system, Voice of Hope reported.

He argued that many people have little understanding of federalism letting tribal interest to ignore the political one, adding that more public rallies are necessary.

Jur River County Commissioner John Arop Apai said it was too early for South Sudan to opt for federalism due to high level of illiteracy and poverty.

He accused the states calling for federalism of having a tribal understanding to disintegrate South Sudan into smaller independent countries.
