Diakonie, a Germany Emergency Organization on Friday released one hundred and seventy thousand US Dollars to Health Link South Sudan to boost operations of combating cholera in Eastern Equatoria State.
Diakonie’s Eastern and Southern Africa Director Clemens Von Heimendahl in a statement on Monday said the money is meant for Wash Your Hands Project to reduce cholera infection by 99 percent.
Health Link South Sudan Chief Executive Director Emmanuel Douglas Barigo said the funds would be for procurement of drugs for treating children, sanitation facilities and training of more hygiene promoters.
The Link’s response to the cholera outbreak in Eastern Equatoria is also supported by UNICEF in areas of case management and social mobilization.
It operates 20 oral rehydration points and Cholera Treatment Centres in Torit, Magwi, Lopa/Lafon and Ikwoto Counties.
As of August 13, 57 people died of cholera and 2,395 cases recorded, out of which 1,298 were managed at Health Link South Sudan facilities in Eastern Equatoria since mid-June.
