Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD monitors said they are currently investigating who continues to violate Cessation of Hostilities Agreement between the government and SPLM/A in Opposition, following Friday’s fresh fighting in Bentiu and Ayod.
In a statement issued on Friday, IGAD condemned the latest heavy fighting in the country.
The envoys in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia said they were shocked by the latest fighting just days after their Heads of State summit and UN Security Council team departure from South Sudan after a warning visit.
They called on the warring parties to stick to provisions of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement to demonstrate commitment to peace process.
IGAD said military advances to gain more ground by any party would not achieve anything except worsening catastrophic humanitarian crisis and devastation in South Sudan.
