Oxfam’s Country Director said the visit of the United Nations Security Council comes at a key moment and provides an opportunity to step up efforts to end the conflict.

Tariq Riebl in a statement on Tuesday said the visit would also push for a lasting ceasefire, ensure humanitarian assistance reaches communities and build foundation for a durable peace that South Sudan urgently needs.

He called on UN Mission in South Sudan to continue prioritizing the protection of civilians with including improving conditions and increasing safety and security of the internally displaced persons in UN bases.

The Country Director said Oxfam remains concerned by obstacles to humanitarian access throughout the country including threats to aid workers.
