Members of African Union Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan on Monday visited Torit, Eastern Equatoria for a fact-finding mission.

Justice Sophia Akuffo who led the team told the press that their trip was to gather information over the mid December crisis and come up with recommendations to realize lasting peace in South Sudan, Emmanuel Radio reported.

The team leader said the Commission did not yet arrive at conclusion and would not rule out mechanisms leading to peace.

Ms Akuffo said the Commission would consider a long range of reconciliation based on the magnitude of crimes and root causes of the conflict to avoid perceptions of impunity.

The African Union Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan chaired by the former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo spread a number of teams to the country to investigate crimes committed during the conflict.
